The awning is hinged at the top and opens outward, with a screen on the inside. The hopper is hinged at the bottom and opens inward, with a screen on the outside. Awnings/hoppers are an excellent choice where ventilation is an important factor, since virtually the entire window can be opened.
As with the casement style, North Star awnings and hoppers perform extremely well because the sash closes against the frame and can be locked. The thick, welded frame and sash and cam locks have been independently tested and shown to resist forced entry. Low-e glass and Super Spacer® technology are standard features in every window.
